About Cursor Hero

We're building an AI cursor generator that turns text prompts into complete native Windows cursor packs.

Cursor Hero started in 2025 with one simple frustration: there was no good way to get a custom mouse cursor without either hand-pixeling one for hours or settling for whatever free pack the internet happened to be hosting that week. Custom cursors were a relic of the 2000s — and nobody had shipped a real AI-native replacement.

I'm an independent developer who got tired of hand-pixeling cursors. I started Cursor Hero as the first AI-native cursor generator — describe any style in plain words and get back a complete, native Windows cursor pack in under a minute. No design tools, no PNG mockups, no Figma import steps.

The focus is narrow on purpose. I'm not building an image generator, a logo maker, or another AI toy. Cursor Hero is a focused tool for one job: making high-quality, native Windows cursors accessible to anyone who can write a sentence.

What we believe

Three rules that guide every decision we make.

AI-first

Every cursor pack is generated by diffusion, not hand-pixeled. If you can describe it, we can ship it.

Native Windows

Output is real .curfiles, not PNG mockups. One click and they're installed in Mouse Properties.

Privacy-respecting

Your prompts and generated cursors are never used to train our models — or anyone else's.

The founder

Independent solo developer. No team, no investors, no roadmap of “soon” features that never ship.

I started Cursor Hero in 2025 after years of hand-pixeling cursors or settling for whatever free pack the internet happened to be hosting. Cursor Hero is the first AI-native cursor generator — describe a style in plain words and get a complete Windows cursor pack with all 10 states in under a minute.

I build and run everything: the diffusion model, the web app, the billing, the docs, and this site.

One person, one focus, no pivot to logo generation, no expansion to wallpaper AI, no “creator economy”. Just cursors.

How it works

Cursor Hero uses a diffusion model — similar to the ones behind DALL·E 3 and Stable Diffusion — fine-tuned on Windows cursor aesthetics. We trained it on tens of thousands of cursor samples spanning pixel art, neumorphism, glass, neon, hand-drawn, and flat design styles so it understands what makes a good cursor read clearly at 32×32 pixels.

The output isn't a single image. A full set renders all ten Windows cursor states — arrow, text, link, cross, resize cursors, busy, and so on — so every cursor in the set matches in style, color, and stroke weight. You get one consistent look across your entire desktop, not a mismatched set.

How Cursor Hero came to be

Cursor Hero started in 2025 in response to a single recurring problem. We kept wanting a custom mouse cursor that fit a specific aesthetic — neon-on-black cyberpunk, soft watercolor, minimalist monochrome — and the only options were: hand-pixel the cursors one by one (hours of work for a single design) or settle for a free pack off the internet where the 10 cursor states had clearly been pulled from three different packs.

There was no good "AI-native" cursor generator. The existing tools were either pixel-art editors with a learning curve, or AI image generators that could only output a single PNG. Neither produced a complete, native Windows cursor pack ready to install in one click. So we built Cursor Hero: describe a style in plain words, get back a complete Windows cursor pack with all 10 states in under a minute.

The first prototype leaned on a stock Stable Diffusion model and took a full two minutes per pack, mostly because we had to clean up every image by hand. The current production model is a diffusion model fine-tuned on tens of thousands of cursor samples spanning pixel art, neumorphism, glass, neon, hand-drawn, and flat design. It now generates a complete, visually-consistent pack in under 60 seconds, end to end.

Built for the Windows cursor architecture

Windows uses exactly 10 system cursor states: the default arrow, text-select I-beam, link hand, precision crosshair, four resize cursors (NESW + NWSE), the busy/working indicator, and a "not allowed" cursor for disabled interactions. Most free cursor packs bundle all 10 with inconsistent visual weight — the arrow looks hand-drawn while the resize cursors are pixel-perfect. We generate every pack as one set, so every cursor matches in stroke weight, color palette, and visual style.

Output is a native .cur install pack with a install.inf registration script. Double-click and the cursors register into Mouse Properties automatically — no PowerShell, no third-party installer. The generated PNGs are also bundled so advanced users can use them in third-party cursor managers like CursorFX.

We also generate the cursors at both 1x and 2x (Retina-class) display densities so they stay sharp on high-DPI displays. Hotspot mapping is precise: the arrow's hotspot is the tip, the I-beam's is the vertical center, the hand's is the fingertip. Cursor Hero gets these right automatically; no manual adjustments needed.

Our privacy commitment

Cursor Hero is privacy-first by design. Your prompts and the cursors you generate are not used to train any AI model — ours or anyone else's. The full upstream model runs in a privacy-respecting inference environment that does not retain user prompts for training, and our side of the system only stores the prompts you give us so you can come back and re-download a pack later.

We never sell personal information. We don't share your prompts, your generated cursors, or your billing data with third parties for advertising or model training. We use third-party services for payment processing, transactional email, AI inference, authentication, analytics, hosting and file storage. Historical Creem billing records remain; our payment processor handles new one-time purchases. See our privacy policy for the data handled by these services.

The complete privacy policy, including data-handling practices and GDPR-specific rights, lives on our privacy policy page. If you have any privacy question at all, email [email protected] and a real human will reply within two business days.

Cursors for everyone: accessibility built-in

We design every Cursor Hero output against three accessibility constraints: color-vision-deficiency (CVD) safety, sufficient hotspot contrast on dark and light backgrounds, and clean edges at the default Windows cursor size of 32×32 pixels. Most custom cursor packs on the internet ignore these — the result is a pretty pack that vanishes against the desktop background or breaks for users with red-green color blindness. Cursor Hero's generation pipeline explicitly tests for both.

For users who need a higher-visibility cursor, we also publish a tutorial on making the Windows 11 system cursor permanently larger and adding high-contrast themes — see our accessibility guide for the step-by-step walkthrough.

What we ship, and how often

Cursor Hero is updated roughly every two weeks with new style presets, model improvements, and platform fixes. Release notes go into the public Cursor Hero blog and into the GitHub repository. Major infrastructure changes ship with a 14-day notice on the dashboard.

We don't ship "soon" features or pivot every quarter — Cursor Hero is the only product the company builds, and the long-term focus is making the best possible cursor pack generator for Windows. If you have a feature request, the highest-leverage channel is the contact form — every request gets a real-person reply, and the most-requested features land on the roadmap.
